We would definitely recommend Mansion Sophia highly. Very well appointed and equipped accommodation. Megalochori is a beautifully restored village and virtually pedestrianised apart from the occasional local in a small car or moped, with little or no traffic past the villa. It’s a short walk to the square with around 8 restaurants within 10 minutes walk and a wonderful bakery (good for lunchtime sandwiches) around 10 minutes walk – this also sells milk water etc and is open long hours. The caldera is in fact only a short walk from the villa so instead of the crowded streets of Oia, far better to take in the sunset here where there were very people and probably a better view.
The transfers and hire car were very well organised. Jackie the concierge greeted us in the village on arrival from the airport, booked our outbound taxi and met us on departure. There is a mobile phone to contact Jackie with any issues which was reassuring.
We would recommend a visit to Symposion a music and art centre which is just a few steps away from the villa – we attended a really interesting evening concert of original Greek music using traditional instruments.
Overall a very enjoyable stay – Santorini is well worth a visit as it is visually stunning and extremely interesting. There must be few places in the world where one can experience a volcano so closely.
