Our History

The magnificent island of Santorini is famous for its Caldera and wonderful sunsets that one can enjoy in settlements built on the cliffs like Oia, Imerovigli and Fira. But Santorini also boasts some traditional villages in the mainland, which had experienced strong growth at the beginning of last century, thanks to the trade of the famous local wine mainly to the imperial Russia and France.

Perhaps the best preserved of these settlements is the village of Megalochori where bygone wealth of wine trade is evident in the villas and mansions that are still scattered amidst its picturesque alleys. The company «Santorini Heritage Villas & Mansions» owns and manages two of the finest Santorini villas which are located in the heart of Megalochori village.

Mansion Kyani belonged to one of the wealthiest families in the village. Kyani, like all aristocratic mansions of the island, had apart from the main house, a large courtyard and a canava to serve the needs of the wine vintage. The earthquake of 1956 caused damage to a portion of the house, without affecting the canava and utility rooms. The current owners of the villa respectfully restored Mansion Kyani to its former glory and turned the ruined part of the villa to an atmospheric swimming pool and garden area. This Santorini villa was rebuilt by local craftsmen who used the volcanic pumice stone already existed in the ruins of the house. The result is impressive! A place to rest and relax, “dressed” in volcanic stone, with garden and infinity pool, who also shines brightly at night thanks to special led lighting which creates a unique atmosphere.

The second santorini villa named Mansion Sophia, also belonged to one of the wealthiest merchant families of the Megalochori village and was named after her last owner, who managed to keep the villa in great condition. The current owners also did careful restoration work so that the hundred years’ old building could maintain its original character, but they also added all the modern comforts of a luxurious santorini villa including a swimming pool, air conditioning, satellite TV, wireless internet etc. The villa is very private and offers plenty of space and ambience that exudes an exotic North Africa style. All rooms of the house overlook the spacious courtyard with the Morrocan pool and the beautiful garden, while the kitchen leads to a small garden overlooking the picturesque bells of the village surrounded by colorful plants where the villa guests can enjoy their meals.
